Technical disciplines reach the site from different manufacturers, at different times and often under separate contracts. Each is handed over by proving it works on its own; nobody owns the seam between two devices. A large share of faults appears exactly there: at protocol boundaries, in clock differences, wherever authorisation lists disagree.
An interface does not exist to display every value. Few decisions are taken in a shift, and only the fields feeding them belong on screen. The rest drops to a report, a log, or a layer that opens when asked. Once one event appears under two names on two screens, a standing translation load stays with the operator.
Seams are tested by time
An event schema is defined, field names are mapped, and which information flows in which direction is put in writing. Acceptance rests on a demonstration that the scenario runs end to end, not on a device list. The order established at commissioning meets its first test at a software update or a change of staff; where nothing was recorded, it has to be discovered again. Sustainable operation depends on documentation and traceable change as much as on the installation.
