Where cable will run through a building is settled before the concrete is poured. Once conduit routes are buried in the slab and plaster is on, changing a route means breaking out — in a residence or villa project, reopening an apartment already handed over. Low-current decisions therefore hang on the shell construction programme rather than on interior design choices.

Where the common area ends and the apartment begins

A plaza or business centre serves not one occupier but tenants independent of each other. Car park, lobby, lifts and plant rooms are shared; a floor is the tenant's own arrangement. Access control carries that distinction: a tenant's employee crosses the lobby and rises to their own floor, not to the neighbouring one. Where a mixed-use scheme places housing, offices and shops on one plot, working hours do not overlap, and lift traffic separates section by section.

Inside a villa or residence apartment the scale drops and the expectation changes. Lighting, blind and climate scenarios are expected to run without being asked for; an action that needs the owner to unlock a phone becomes an unused function soon enough. A line that runs on site, KNX among them, keeps working when the cloud connection drops: when the internet goes, a light switch stays a light switch.

After handover

Whoever builds a building is not whoever operates it afterwards. Once construction ends, operation passes to a management the residents choose. Labelling that says which line goes where, spare capacity left in the trunking, drawings handed over with the keys: these set the time and cost of every intervention from that day on.
