A paging arrangement is built at the source: a music player, a paging microphone, a call input from the PBX and a recorded message the fire panel triggers. An audio matrix distributes them to zones, a power stage drives the line, and the speaker line runs floor by floor as a high-impedance distribution. Each speaker's tap on its line transformer is chosen for the volume it sits in; two overlapping legs in the same corridor are balanced here.
Ceiling height governs the layout. As the ceiling rises, one speaker's coverage on the floor widens, while the direct sound reaching a listener weakens and reflections off hard surfaces come forward. In a lobby of marble, glass and concrete, late reflections land on top of syllables; the answer is not more gain but tighter spacing, every speaker running lower. Where the ceiling is out of reach, wall-mounted column speakers aim sound down at the floor.
A ballroom, a conference floor and a stage hang off the same body but ask for their own mix path — wireless microphone channels, feedback suppression, stage monitoring.
Zoning and priority
Zoning decides where a message lands. With floors, blocks, outdoor areas and plant rooms as separate zones, a page from reception reaches only the floor it concerns while background music continues elsewhere. The priority table writes that rule: an evacuation message sits above everything, a staff page ducks the music, music waits at the bottom. A level per zone answers the ambient noise difference between morning and evening.
Supervising the line
On a line carrying an evacuation duty, silence is the fault itself. Supervised speaker lines report a broken or shorted leg before anyone has spoken; a standby power stage takes over, and an uninterruptible supply carries the chain through a mains failure. A fire-resistant cable route keeps the message travelling in the minute it is needed.
